Global Educator Dr. Swati Popat Vats visits BDMI
The students, faculty, and staff of BDMI were delighted and honoured to meet the global educator and the President of the Early Childhood Association, Dr. Swati Popat Vats, who visited the campus and interacted with the young students of primary and pre-primary. The tiny BDMIans of pre-primary had put up a Toy Mela as a part of their learning about the diverse cultures of India. Sustainability was the focal point as the students of pre-primary participated in various colourful activities like “Karigari”, “Live Puppets”, and Toy Bazar. Students of the Primary section presented projects on the theme ’Festivals’.
Dr. Vats interacted with the teachers and students. She gave invaluable input on National Curriculum Framework to the school administrators. Teachers also attended a very informative workshop on ‘Implementing NCF 2022 in Schools’ conducted by Dr. Vats at Indus Valley World School on 11th February 2023. She initiated the workshop by urging all educators to work as an integrated community that cares, shares, and learns for the advancement of young learners. From reiterating the role of a teacher in kindling the spark in children for learning at a very early age to discussing the role of the Hippocampus and amygdala, she pointed out the brain functioning which renders children in performing activities involving arts, holistic thinking, visual skills, nonverbal cues, to name a few. Explaining thoroughly the significance of a joyous, age-appropriate, and child-centric learning pedagogy, she emphasized the importance of a learning methodology that must be adopted by teachers to avoid stress and unnecessary burden on the learners. Dr. Vats concluded by discussing the significance of the New Education policy, 2020 which lays utmost stress on education during the early and formative years where play-based learning techniques are to be used to keep the young minds engaged.
It was indeed an enriching and delightful session wherein the educators-facilitators were once again reminded of the importance of a holistic approach to promoting newer pedagogies while keeping in mind the wholesome growth of the tiny tots.
